A Family Separated(The Dynamics of Family)
"when Gallien asked whether his parents or a friend knew what he was up to-whether there was anyone who would sound the alarm if he got into trouble and was overdue-Alex answered calmly that no, nobody knew of his plans that in fact he hadn't spoken to his family in nearly two years"(Krakauer 6).
I know everybody thinks Chris is a fool for what he did, going into the wilderness ill prepared, but based what we learned of the dynamics of his family and what he had been through there is a lot sympathy I feel for him now. I still think he is a fool for dying, but trying to get away from what was in his whole life makes complete sense. If you have not watched the Ted Talk about his childhood you are missing out because it ties together the whole book and shines light on grey areas. The dynamics of one's childhood will shape them and who they are for there whole life, as one can see with Chris. Gallien had no clue what Chris had been through, so he had no idea on what was to come, but what was obvious was the Chris's family dynamics were not right because it is not normal for someone to have not talked to their family in 2 years. So what one can take away from this is that however one is brought up will change who you are forever.
